Euro 2024 Predictions
Like all the major tournaments in soccer, the Euros is famously competitive, with many of the world’s best international sides taking part. Last tournament, Italy beat England in the final on penalties, and both teams will likely be fighting for a place in the final once more.
Germany will also be one of the favorites considering they’re hosting the tournament and have won the Euros a record three times. In addition, it’s impossible to count out teams like France, Spain, Portugal and Belgium. Potential dark horses for this year’s tournament include Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia.
Aside from betting on the individual match results and the winner of the tournament, Wabo Sportsbook lets you bet on which teams will finish bottom of their group and the teams that will be eliminated from the tournament during the group stage.
Who Will Win Euro 2024?
While the odds are subject to change once the tournament gets underway, here are the top favorites to win the Euro 2024:
England
England are the current favorite to win the tournament according to the odds makers. They have an extremely talented squad, with attacking players such as Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish all providing a serious goal threat. They also have the likes of Decland Rice and Jude Bellingham in midfield, but their defense could prove to be their undoing and they’ve never won the Euros.
France
France are second-favorites, just behind England in the odds. However, they have just as much of a talented squad, and have lifted the World Cup in 2018. Kylian Mbappe has consistently proved himself as one of the world’s best attacking players, and they have quality in every position throughout the team. Head coach Didier Deschamps has a lot of talented players to choose from, particularly in defense.
Germany
Germany has previously been labeled as a team in crisis, with consecutive group stage exits in the World Cup and a long string of disappointing performances in international friendlies. However, recent wins against France and Netherlands, and the work of Julian Nagelsmann seem to have righted the ship just in time for the Euros. They have a very strong team, with the likes of Toni Kroos, Florian Wirtz and Kai Havertz all in excellent form right now.
Portugal
Portugal has one of the most talented squads in world football and played a perfect qualifying campaign with 10 wins in 10 games plus 34 goals scored. New head coach Roberto Martinez struggled to get the most out of Belgium’s squad, but could he prove to be the difference for Portugal? Players such as Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes will be key if Portugal are to make it to the final.
Spain
Spain hold the joint record for most Euro Championship wins at three and are the only team to have won the tournament consecutively. These days, the Spanish side is a shadow of what it was between 2008 and 2012, but they’re still a strong contender with a lot of great talents. Lamine Yamal is an interesting one to watch, as he could become the youngest ever player to play in the competition.
Italy
Italy are the defending champions of the Euros, having won the 2020 final in London. They had a very impressive tournament, despite failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Interestingly, they failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup too. They’ve also lost some of their biggest players to retirement, but despite all that, they’re still a strong contender for the 2024 Euros.
Who Will Be Eliminated During the Euro 2024 Group Stage?
Predicting which teams will go home early can be just as fun as picking the winners. Only two teams are guaranteed to progress from each group, while the bottom-placed teams will be sent home early. Here are some of the most likely candidates for early elimination:
Scotland
Scotland have reached the Euros for the second successive tournament, having previously not played since 1996. It’s a good time to be a fan of the national team, with some quality players available for selection. However, they’re placed in a tough group and will have a lot of work to do to take points from Switzerland, Germany and Hungary.
Albania
In 2024, Group B holds the title of the so-called Group of Death. Albania have to play against two championship contenders, Spain and Italy, as well as Croatia, another very strong team. As such, Albania’s hopes of qualifying for the knockout rounds are low.
Georgia
Most Georgian fans are just happy to finally be a part of the Euros. This is the first ever time that Georgia has made the competition, and they have a pretty difficult group to get out of. They’ll need to do better than Czech Republic, Turkey or Portugal in order to at least make the third place ranking.
Top Goal Scorer Bets
If you prefer to bet on individual players, you can also bet on the tournament’s top goal scorer. Here are some of the likely Golden Boot winners based on their current odds:
Harry Kane
Kane is England’s main forward and biggest goal threat. He has 62 goals in 89 appearances for England and has previously won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup. He’s been impressive for Bayern Munich in his first season and will no doubt be in the running for top scorer if England progress through the knockout stages.
Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe may only be 25 but the French striker already has 36 goals for his country and has won the golden boot at the 2022 World Cup. Mbappe should be in good form ahead of his summer transfer to Real Madrid, and if France go far, expect him to score plenty of goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Despite his age, Ronaldo is still considered one of the favorites to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024. He’ll be 39 for the tournament, which will surely be his last. He’s scored a record 128 goals for his national team and also has the record for the most goals scored in the Euos. It would be unlikely for him to be the top goal scorer, but it’s impossible to count him out if Portugal do well.
Euro 2024 Betting Tips, Odds and Previews
Before you start betting on the Euros, it’s important to understand how the odds work. In addition, we’ve shared some tips to help you have more fun and get more out of your bets.
Euro 2024 Odds
Odds on the Euros work exactly the same as anywhere else. When looking at the odds for a winner in a game between two teams, one will usually be a favorite and the other will be the underdog. The favorite has a much higher chance of winning, though the odds are lower so the payout for a successful bet is lower.
As an example, let’s look at the current odds for the match between Germany and Scotland:
- Germany – 370
- Draw +500
- Scotland +1100
Germany are the heavy favorites for this match. The minus sign before the odds means that you’d need to place a $370 bet to win $100.
Meanwhile, if you bet $100 on Scotland, you’d win a $1100 payout if they win the game.
Tips for Betting on Euro 2024
When betting on the Euros, there are a few tips you should consider:
- Player and team form – Form is always an important consideration when betting on soccer. You should look at the team’s form in qualifying and recent friendlies. While it’s tempting to put a lot of value in club football form, you should note that a lot of players will perform differently for their national teams, often due to different tactics.
- Tournament history – While it doesn’t mean everything, it’s important to consider tournament history when looking at which matches to bet on. Teams with an extensive history in the Euros, especially in the knockout rounds, will often have a mental edge over their opponents. For example, England are one of the favorites, but as they’ve never won before, they’re more likely to choke when it matters the most.
- Head-to-head records – Some teams simply perform better against certain opposition, whether due to personal rivalries or the playing style and tactics implemented by each coach. Always check the historical and recent head-to-head record to get an idea of the likely result before you bet. The head to head records and other stats are available at Wabo.com.
- Check the stats – There are loads of stats available on Euro 2024 games, including the stats on live games at Wabo Sportsbook. Stats give you more insights into what might happen on the pitch, including the number of goals scored, the potential goal scorers and the eventual result of the match.
Types of Bets and How to Bet on Soccer
There are many ways to bet on soccer, and it can be a little confusing if you’re new to the sport. Check out our soccer betting guide or read on to learn some of the main types of soccer bets and betting markets you’ll find on all Euro 2024 games:
- 1×2 – Also known as the match result or moneyline bet , simply choose which team you think will win or bet on the tie.
- Draw no bet – The same as above except you can only bet on either team to bet. If the game ends in a tie, your Wabo is returned.
- Asian total – This lets you bet on how many goals you think will be scored in the match. You can bet over or under a specific amount.
- Asian handicap – This applies a handicap to the favorite and an equal goal advantage to the underdog. If you bet on the favorite, they need to win by a greater margin than the handicap and betting on the underdog means they’ll need to avoid losing by a larger margin.
- Double chance – Double chance lets you bet on two different outcomes and your bet wins if either one occurs. For example, you can bet on France to win or draw.
- 1st goal – This is a bet on which team you think will score the first goal of the match.
- Correct score – Predict what the score will be at the end of the game.
- Both teams to score – A bet on whether or not both teams will score during the match.
- Outright – A bet on the eventual outcome of the group stage or knockout rounds. You can bet on which team will win the tournament, which teams will be eliminated during the group stages and more.
- Parlays – Combine multiple bets into one to increase your odds and land a big payout if all your parlay predictions are correct.
- Prop bets – Many games also feature prop bets , which are bets on specific outcomes that don’t necessarily affect the result. For example, you can bet on the total number of cards.
